The Origins

Founded in 1976 in France, Lumen Center was established under the artistic direction of French designer Gilles Derain. Drawing inspiration from Jacques Adnet’s teachings and the ethos of international modernism, Derain brought a bold, contemporary approach to lighting design. His involvement with the Union des Artistes Modernes (UAM) deeply influenced the brand’s identity, resulting in a distinctive style that blends artistic innovation with modern aesthetics.

In 1992, Lumen Center entered a new chapter under Italian ownership, relocating to Milan, the European capital of design. This transition marked the brand’s expansion into the international lighting scene, leading to prestigious collaborations with renowned designers like Jean-Michel Wilmotte and Carlo Forcolini.

Now, with the launch of Lumen Center USA, we bring this rich European legacy directly to the American market, offering high-end Italian-made lighting solutions tailored for commercial, hospitality, and large-scale architectural projects. Our presence in the USA allows us to serve the North American design community with the same commitment to craftsmanship, innovation, and design excellence that has defined Lumen Center for nearly 50 years.
